'Our athletes are the children of our Revolution, and at the same time, its standard-bearers.'
Central to Cuba's revolution has been the priority it has given to sport and sports education. Ron Pickering, a former Olympic coach, was curious as to how a small island, with a population no larger than that of London, could produce Olympic champions of the calibre of Alberto Juantorena and Teofilo Stevenson. Recently, he went to Cuba to find out.

The Great Orchestras
The Cleveland Orchestra conducted by Lorin Maazel
The Cleveland Orchestra, in Ohio, was founded in 1918 as an ensemble to give children's concerts and rapidly grew to become one of America's ' big five '. Its fame owes a great deal to George Szell , Music Director for 23 years, whose discipline and training left an indelible impression on the orchestra. Something of Szell's magic comes across in archive film included in this documentary.
Since 1972 lorin MAAZEL has been their permanent conductor and for this programme he rehearses and performs music by Beethoven; Berlioz; Dvorak; Gershwin; Mozart; Strauss; and Schumann's Piano Concerto in A minor

Starring Godfrey Cambridge, Estelle Parsons

A new season of Screen 2 featuring films shown for the first time on British television starts with a black comedy about an insurance salesman with a personality problem: nobody likes him. Jeff Gerber is an overbearing, self-satisfied loud-mouth who sees himself as the life and soul of every party - except that he is never invited to parties. He is also a racist. So it comes as quite a shock to him when he wakes up one morning and finds that he has turned into a black man!
