The Road to Kathmandu
In the small ads at the back of newspapers all over the world there are offers of places on expeditions to travel uncomfortably to the exotic places of the world. These are package tours with a difference; not offering luxury hotels and drinks by the pool, but long hard journeys in buses or trucks across the trade routes of the world, once only accessible to the hardened explorer.
One expedition leader, Mike Deman , has been driving the road from London to Nepal for three years. In this programme he takes 25 passengers across Europe to Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan, over the Khyber Pass to Pakistan and India and after 11 weeks travelling -to Kathmandu.

Vienna - The Mask of Gold
A personal documentary written and presented by Michael Frayn
At the turn of the century, Vienna was still one of the world's great Imperial capitals. In the decade before the Great War, ideas were born in the city that have stamped themselves upon the whole 20th century.
In a sequel to his highly praised film about Imperial Berlin, playwright, novelist and journalist MICHAEL FRAYN explores the cultural legacy of those years. Behind the uniforms and rigid moral codes of court life, he examines the new world that was being born - the erotic world of the painters Klimt and Schiele, the world of the unconscious mapped by Freud and the playwright Schnitzler, the new musical worlds of Mahler and Schoenberg. But the golden mask of Viennese culture in the 1900s concealed a sure and growing knowledge that the world was about to disintegrate, leaving nothing of the Empire that stretched from Poland to the Adriatic but heavy architecture, tourist attractions and a nostalgia for past greatness.

Otto Preminger 's witty and compulsive film combines black comedy with a medical expose of some of the more gruesome aspects of American hospitals.
On the advice of his family doctor, art director Richard Messenger goes to hospital for the removal of a mole on his neck. The apparently trivial operation develops complications and causes Richard's wife, Julie, to re-examine their relationship.
