The Road to Kathmandu
In the small ads at the back of newspapers all over the world there are offers of places on expeditions to travel uncomfortably to the exotic places of the world. These are package tours with a difference; not offering luxury hotels and drinks by the pool, but long hard journeys in buses or trucks across the trade routes of the world, once only accessible to the hardened explorer.
One expedition leader, Mike Deman , has been driving the road from London to Nepal for three years. In this programme he takes 25 passengers across Europe to Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan, over the Khyber Pass to Pakistan and India and after 11 weeks travelling -to Kathmandu.
