Seven days to go, eight players left and the big money still remains to be fought for.
At 10.30, according to the pre-championship forecasts and seedings, STEVE DAVIS (1) should be playing BILL WERBENIUK (8) and CLIFF THORBURN (3) should be facing EDDIE CHARLTON (6) as the first eight frames of the first two best-of-25-frame quarter-finals begin. Two players in particular may have had something to say about that. TERRY GRIFFITHS in Werbeniuk's section, and JIMMY WHITE in Charlton's quarter, will be disappointed if they are not on duty this morning.
At about 2.30 it's DAVID VINE and Snooker Break, and Shot of the Championship is repeated.
At 3.0 the remaining quarter-finalists play their first sessions. ALEX HIGGINS (5) versus TONY KNOWLES (4) and KIRK STEVENS (7) against RAY REARDON (2) were the matches expected, but TONY MEO is a big danger to Ray Reardon 's hopes, and DOUG MOUNTJOY has beaten Alex Higgins here before.

Davis, the current World Champion, is the only man ever to have won this championship twice at the Crucible; no one since RAY REARDON (1973, 74, 75, 76) has won it twice in succession.
