Lou, an ageing crook with delusions about his past grandeur, works with increasing difficulty in Atlantic City, USA. By chance he encounters Dave, a hoodlum who has a small fortune in stolen cocaine, and together they decide to push the drugs. Unfortunately the original owners have other plans.
Interwoven with this story is the bittersweet love affair between Lou and the beautiful Sally and a vividly haunting portrait of a faded city.
Louis Malle's film has quickly established itself as a classic of the 80s and in the central role Burt Lancaster gives one of the greatest performances of his distinguished career.
