Throughout this season of snooker-since the end of September 1983-STEVE DAVIS has been the favourite for every individual championship he has entered - and he has won six of them. Davis, the current World Champion, is the only man ever to have won this championship twice at the Crucible; no one since RAY REARDON (1973, 74, 75, 76) has won it twice in succession.
