A series of seven new films 2: Officer Class
Reporter Jack Pizzey
The Navy loves its salty stories. When the now-famous Admiral ' Jackie ' Fisher joined in 1854 he had to leap naked over a chair to test his fitness, and write out the Lord's Prayer as a test of education and moral fibre.
They tell this tale at Britannia Royal Naval College at Dartmouth to illustrate the changes in officer training for today's sophisticated service.
Dartmouth teaches leadership, unashamedly through stress, both for the men and the Wrens. Its failure rate is high.
This film traces the fortunes of this summer term's officers under training, including an 18-year-old straight from comprehensive school, a rating with ten years' experience on the lower decks and a Wren carrying on a family tradition.
