Gorillas in the Midst of Man
A mountain gorilla baby, just two hours old, is cradled gently in its mother's arms.
It will grow up in an intimate family group led by a huge silverback male. Its progress is watched carefully by a dedicated group of scientists and volunteers who are continuing the years of research undertaken by the late Dian Fossey. Mountain gorillas are among our closest relatives.
Sadly, their dwindling population now numbers less than 400, surviving in a tiny conservation area in central Africa.
