This year's competition gets off to a glittering start with Leeds meeting Salford at Headingley - scene of last year's epic final between Leigh and Castleford.
Leeds won the Rugby League Challenge Cup at Wembley in May in a controversial waterlogged final after a superb season. And big-spending Salford are maintaining their position as Lancashire's most exciting club by signing players like former British Lions captain David Watkins.
The Floodlit Competition has emerged as Rugby League's 'mini-cup' - and this time the absolute cream of the Northern game are lined up to compete. Thrills and fierce rivalry are guaranteed.

Tales of the Twenties
Tonight's play is a fictional reconstruction of the murder of Kevin O'Higgins, a leading Irish politician who was gunned down on his way to Mass one Sunday morning in 1927. O'Flaherty, in his novel from which this play is adapted, explores the mind of a man who would perpetrate such a crime. The Assassin's anti-hero threw Ireland into an uproar. His motive is more than revenge and, in settling a debt, he understood that he had a far more personal one to settle with his God.

Few of us would want to follow world events like the Czech crisis and the American elections if we couldn't make judgments about them as they happen. We get annoyed when pre-packaged judgments are fed to us, and we get suspicious. We wonder whether half the evidence is missing.
This week Europa returns with a new season of foreign films, intended to reveal 'the other half of the evidence,' and the programme will consist each week of a variety of film material focused on one topical subject. It won't have been pre-packaged - but it will be in English.
