Seventh of eight programmes, in which Beryl Bainbridge explores England. She travels to many of the places visited by J B Priestley more than 50 years earlier for his book English Journey.
In Billingham she meets a young man convicted of a violent crime, who is about to begin his prison sentence. She talks to top executives from a company with a mine that they plan to fill with radioactive waste. In Hull a trawler-fleet owner tells how Britain lost the Icelandic fishing wars.

Mr Iwago Whales. Every year humpback whales embark on an epic migration 3,000 miles across the Pacific Ocean.
For eight months, Mitsuaki Iwago, Japan's leading wildlife cameraman, followed them from the warm, shallow seas around Hawaii, where they raise their young, to the icy waters of Alaska where they feed. Filming them above and below the surface and beneath the water, he captures unique scenes of the whales fishing together with a 'net' of bubbles and singing their haunting songs.
