When Mayor Handley decides to invest the town's rates in a theatre, the residents and councillors of 'Foaming at the Mouth' are decidedly apprehensive. Not without reason since Tommy has been 'sold a pup'. A desperate situation is saved only by one of the most chaotic theatrical benefits in showbusiness history and an unexpected windfall.
Handley and his team of regulars helped keep Britain going during the war and post-war years despite bombs, rationing and the like....

The Muria live in a relatively isolated area of central India. Their way of life differs from the general Indian pattern in many respects.
One important difference is the independence of spirit encouraged in Muria girls and boys. They sleep separately from their parents in the ' ghotul a dormitory and meeting house for the young. As members of the ghotul, their dancing and singing display Muria culture at its most splendid. But their marriages are arranged by their parents, and at marriage the young must leave the carefree life of the ghotul.
