' Auntie ' Vi, who spent Christmas in hospital, dies. The village mourns her passing. But spring also brings its joyful moments. Children dance around the May-pole and in warm sunshine roll eggs down the precipitous terracing of King's Play Hill.
A month after Lady Day the tenant farmers assemble to settle accounts with their landlords the Money-Kyrles, and in early May it's the local elections. There are ten candidates and only seven seats on the Parish Council. Three villagers are going to be bitterly disappointed.
