The Royal Institution Annual Christmas Lectures to Young People by Heinz Wolff of the Medical Research Council

Seeing is believing and to 'see' the inside story doctors have for many years relied on X-rays - but X-rays are only one method of looking through your skin. Tonight: from BBC Scotland Current Account on The Powderhall

All over Britain more than 150 athletes are preparing, many of them in secret, for the Skol 110 metres handicap - successor to the world-famous Powderhall Sprint. They'll meet at Meadowbank Stadium in Edinburgh today to compete for the blue riband of the professional footrace, a gold medal and a first prize of £500. But
there's a lot more money at stake than that. To the betting fraternity, these runners are little more than greyhounds that talk.
Tonight Ken Cargill reports on the agony and the ecstasy of The Powderhall.
