It is a safe bet that anyone with a stethoscope would be taken for a doctor. A doctor uses the instrument to listen to noises within his patient; but the acoustic stethoscope is now old hat: there are much more advanced ways of seeing and hearing the inside story - even the lecturer is bugged!
