Among traditional toys,
Victorian rocking horses have always been a favourite, but they are mostly handcrafted, very expensive and ornate. Richard Blizzard takes the basic design and simplifies it so that even a beginner can make one. It may not be a thoroughbred, but it will perform well in heavy going and you won't need to be the Aga Khan to own it.

First of two programmes

Are you prepared to sing solo in front of 300 other children? To dance in flimsy costume in Oldham marketplace when it's snowing? To join a cast of hundreds in the musical Bugsy Malone?
Children, from the age of 8 to 18, who answer 'yes' to these questions, join Oldham Theatre Workshop and discover that the director, David Johnson, believes firmly in discipline. Financed by Oldham Education Department, the workshop is strictly amateur, but it aims to equal the highest professional standards. You don't have to pay to join. All that is required is limitless energy, maximum effort and total dedication.
