The Japanese entry for the 1976 Italia Prize tells the story of Takashi Aral , who was born a thalidomide baby in 1962. The struggle for his independence and what this involved for his family was filmed from birth until Takashi was 13 years old. Now his parents try every available means to help him have a normal childhood but Takashi must still tolerate over-protection from teachers and playground cruelty from children.
