A selection of some of the world's great paintings
This week's theme: Gardens Bosch (c 1450-1516)
The Garden of Earthly Delights (The Prado, Madrid)
His contemporaries found it hard to believe that one mind could summon up such a proliferation of fantastic creatures. It is not difficult to see why Bosch has excited great interest in our time: his imagery seems to come straight from the subconscious, just right for the tortured century that invented psychoanalysis. The New World
The third and final part of this series on modern sculpture deals -with sculpture since 1945, beginning with Europe after the Second World War and moving to the United States, where many European artists had emigrated. The Abstract Expressionists and their followers are presented at work in their studios, at outdoor sites and in foundries. The reactions to Abstract Expressionism are then examined: Pop, Surrealism, Minimal Art.
