Chapters for an Autobiography 2: 1932-1952
A series of three conversations in which Sir Georg Solti talks with his wife and friends.
Sir Georg takes up the story with the difficulties of launching his career in pre-war Budapest. He goes on to recall how his guardian angel guided him to Salzburg and Toseanini, on to Switzerland, where he spent the war years in uneasy isolation, and finally, in 1946, to the Munich Opera and his first conducting post. A highlight of the Munich years was his meeting with Richard Strauss.

This feature debut by Bill Forsyth, the Scottish director who achieved phenomenal success with Gregory's Girl earlier this year, is, like his new film, a refreshing and jaunty comedy. Set - somewhat unpromisingly - among the young, unemployed in Glasgow it concerns a group of youngsters who decide that earning an honest living is impossible. The answer, without a job or a union card, is to turn to crime. Their exploits are chaotically funny as they decide to steal a collection of 93 stainless steel sinks ... The result of their mission impossible is an optimistic tribute to the resilience of the human spirit.
