starring
Peter Ustinov
Sandra Dee , John Gavin
This sparkling adaptation of Ustinov's stage success is being specially presented to follow his Guardian Lecture, screened last Thursday. It mixes laughter, romance and some rather eccentric politics in its story, loosely inspired by Shakespeare's play. But here the setting is Concordia and the rival 'families' are the Soviet Union and the USA.

The NatWest Bank Trophy Final Derbyshire v Northamptonshire
Two well-matched teams come to Lord's in what is likely to be a closely contested final. The captains, GEOFF COOK (Northamptonshire) and BARRY WOOD (Derbyshire) are vastly experienced in all aspects of the game, and both teams have a good blend of experience and youth. Northamptonshire may have a slight edge in experience of the big occasion as this is the third successive season they have reached a one-day cup final. PETER WEST introduces the closing stages of the match worth L10,000 to the winners. International Athletics from Rome

The women's 800m and the men's 400m are also today, but the outstanding performance could come from the superb USA sprint team in the men's 4 x 100m relay.

' Of all the arts, for us the cinema is the most important', said Lenin. Today, he would turn in his Moscow mausoleum if he could see the state of the art in Poland. There, film has become a powerful force of social criticism, and party propaganda fills no cinema seats. But until recently much of the best work of Polish documentary film makers was censored. Films which got too near the truth about the realities of working life, social problems and recent Polish history were put ' on the shelf', as the Poles say. Now Solidarity is pressing hard for an end to censorship and these films are emerging into the daylight.
Anthony Smith , Director of the British Film Institute, introduces extracts from some of them and talks to a young Polish film maker whose recent work is still ' on the shelf '.

A new feature film continuing the Polish theme. starring Jerzy Stuhr
Danielak, a young man in the entertainment business, is ruthless and ambitious. He wants to be Master of Ceremonies at the Gala Ball inaugurating both the opening of a new hotel and the town's 500th anniversary celebrations. Danielak will do literally anything to achieve his aim. He even tries to sell his girlfriend ...
Courageously made before the current liberalisation, Feliks Falk 's film caused a furore in Poland when it was released. Although it is set in a small provincial town, it was widely interpreted as a picture of corruption and graft in the government and party system. Jerzy Stuhr , one of the most influential figures in contemporary Polish cinema, gives a dazzling performance as a man who stops at nothing to get what he wants.
