The last of ten programmes This week's theme: Gardens Klee (1879-1940)
Garden with Birds
(Galerie Stangl , Munich)
The strong resemblance between Klee's watercolour and children's art is not just an affectation. He preserved his childhood drawings very carefully and always believed j that if it was ever to probe beneath the surface of appearances, modern art had to look again at its primitive origins. Diary of a Search
' If I was in life for fame and fortune I'd be in the movies or as Whistler said, jump off Waterloo Bridge with fireworks in my pockets. There's more ways of making a big flash deal of yourself than digging bloody holes in the desert, believe me.'
John Romer , a self-confessed ' loony ' under the spell of Egypt's mysterious past, was filmed for two years as his ill-assorted team searched for the treasure of ancient kings and possible glory. But in the heat of the desert passions flare and in this intimate portrait all is revealed about the pressures of expedition life; about an offbeat man; about Romer's Egypt. Narrated by joss ACKLAND

Workers 80
A year ago the historic agreement between Solidarity and the Polish government was signed, bringing far-reaching changes unique in the Communist world.
Ludovic Kennedy introduces a special weekend of programmes which illustrate how the Poles are beginning to see the truth about their country and its history through films and television.
Tonight, a special showing of Workers 80. This moving documentary was shot behind the locked gates of the Gdansk shipyards last August. It provides a unique record of the dramatic negotiations between Lech Walesa and government officials, which led to the launching of Solidarity. Officially the film does nnt exist. Unofficially millions of Poles have seen it in clubs and cinemas ' occupied ' for the day.
