Destination Doha 2: The Difficult Bit
Four men in three massive 40-ton lorries left England seven days ago on a 5,000-mile journey through 11 countries. Their destination, Doha. The cargo, a bizarre mixture of goods for this capital of the newly-rich oil Emirate of Qatar.
Last week's programme followed the adventures and misadventures of these four men across Europe to Istanbul. This week it's ' Good-bye Europe' as they set out over the Bosphorus bridge into the emptiness of Asia Minor, ahead the Middle East and Arabia. This is ' the difficult bit'. There are problems enough in Turkey and Syria, but there is no road at all south from the Baghdad road out of Jordan to the pipeline in Northern Saudi Arabia. The lorries simply turn off the tarmac and head out into the desert.
Not so many years ago this journey might have been considered a major piece of world exploration. Now, for those four drivers, it's just a job. but not an easy one. Narrator BENNY GREEN

by LEONARD BARRAS starring Roy Kinnear and Henry Livings with Jean Boht Colin Edwynn and Meg Johnson
An entertainment in six episodes recorded on the stage of The Crucible Theatre, Sheffield 4: Not a Single Importunate Embrace
In which ALICE becomes relatively assertive and takes off on a despairing mission. PROGMORTON, longing for love, makes his own once-in-a-lifetime cry for help. The incoherent appeals of both fall on the resolutely deaf ears of DR STAS-SIDGE, who, tuned by years of training, will hear nothing he doesn't want to hear, which includes ENID'S claim to human recognition. GRANNY is re-corralled by FRINGFOOT, but not for long, we bet. The IXWEED/PROGMORTION acrimonious friendship continues and HECKLEWELL and VANGLE linger again under their lamp.

West meets East featuring
West Bromwich Albion v
The People's Republic of China
West Bromwich Albion reciprocate last year's invitation, when they were the first professional football team to visit The People's Republic.
Tonight from The Hawthorns, JOHN MOTSON reports on second-half live football action, involving one of the world's most unknown football nations.
The Chinese might wonder whether Albion's JOHN TREWICK would like to compare The Great Wall of China with Birmingham's Bull Ring, remembering Trewick describe The Great Wall of China as ' if you've seen one wall, you've seen them all.'

(La vie L'amour La mort) starring Amidou, Caroline Cellier This powerful portrait of a murderer of women is a stark contrast with the romance of Lelouch's better-known films. Based on a true story, it is also a passionate plea for the abolition of capital punishment in France.
A young man leaves a bullfight for a rendezvous with his mistress, unaware that the police are watching his every move ...
