A series of five programmes 2: Sir Arthur Harris
Marshal of the Royal Air Force
This documentary is about a commander whose role in the war provokes question and argument. It fell to Harris to carry out the policy of bombing German cities. He had to send his men again and again into a long and terrible battle, yet himself could only command from the rear. His career ended in partial eclipse because, once the war was won, those who had backed his bomber offensives became somewhat ashamed of them.
Those taking part include: Air Chief Marshal The Hon Sir Ralph Cochrane, Air Marshal Sir Victor Goddard, Albert Speer, Hans Brunswig, General Adolf Galland, Dr Noble Frankland, Marshal of the Royal Air Force Sir John Slessor
Written by CORRELLI BARNETT
Narrated by FRANK GILLARD
Quotations from Harris's writings spoken by JOHN MOFFATT

After the astonishing speeds achieved by the new generation of ground-effects cars at Silverstone, where race-winner Clay Regazzoni averaged nearly 140 mph, another high-speed contest is assured at Hockenheim, which is dominated by long, fast straights.

Both the Williams and Renault teams will be flat out to repeat their recent successes, while Ferrari's Jody Scheckter and Giles Villeneuve will be striving to consolidate their championship positions.
