Robin Ray introduces a spectacular production of Carmina Burana by CARL ORFF
Orff's most popular work was filmed with the close co-operation of the composer as a tribute for his 80th birthday. Subsequently it won the RAi Prize for the most inventive television music programme of 1975. Written in 1936, Carmina Burana is a setting for soloists, chorus and orchestra of a collection of medieval Latin and German poems found over 100 years ago in a Bavarian monastery.
This production brings the poems to life in a vivid re-creation of the atmosphere of the Middle Ages. with LUCIA popp (soprano)
