From the Royal Academy of Arts, Mervyn Levy introduces a visit to the current retrospective exhibition of L.S. Lowry, an exhibition staged by the Royal Academy as a tribute by artists to its most popular member.
Lowry's still lifes, industrial landscapes, sketches and drawings are intermixed with current scenes, scenes which have been his source of inspiration for the past 80 years.

During the Napoleonic wars, the Marchioness of O..., a young widow, is saved by a Czarist officer from rape by the invading Russian troops. Some months later, she is astonished to find herself pregnant and much distressed by her family who cannot believe that she has no idea how it happened. In desperation, she places an advertisement in the newspaper, asking the man responsible to make himself known.
