In Cairo he visits the ancient university of El Azhar , a bastion of Islamic orthodoxy, and meets a remarkable married couple - both of them doctors and devout Muslims. The search leads to a small village on the edge of the Sahara where life is lived as it has been for centuries according to the Islamic ideal of community.
