Looking after the health of the expectant mother and of the developing baby is the subject of tonight's Television Doctor.
Most expectant mothers go to the antenatal clinic for the first time about 12 weeks after conception.
By this time the baby-to-be has already passed through the most hazardous part of its whole life - the period during which it develops from a single fertilised cell into a miniature human being.
