A surprising new account of the planet we inhabit and the programme most requested by viewers who missed part or all of it during the power cuts.
Written by Nigel Calder
Introduced by Magnus Magnusson
Narrated by John Gregson

The last few years have brought a revolution in our understanding of the Earth. For the first time Man can tell why earthquakes and volcanoes occur; how mountains and oceans are made.

The Earth's outer shell is broken in many places like a cracked eggshell. On the backs of the broken pieces called 'plates' the familiar continents and oceans ride as passengers. It is the jostling of these plates that causes earthquakes and makes mountains. All this restlessness has profoundly influenced the evolution of life as continents have merged and broken apart. Research in progress around the world is telling afresh the story of our planet in the light of this new knowledge.

For men of rugby it is said that the next best thing to getting capped for your country is being selected as a Barbarian. For a 'Baabaa' the important match to win is the one against Cardiff.
This traditional Easter meeting between these two world-famous clubs has never failed to provide an exhibition of adventurous, hard, yet skilful rugby. For an expected capacity crowd at the National Stadium, Cardiff Arms Park, both teams will be fielding several Internationals and Lions.

Though he has always been a writer, Nirad Chaudhuri's first book was not published until he was over 50. Since then his highly personal views on both India and Great Britain have won him literary awards and an international reputation. Now in his 70s, Chaudhuri is regarded by his fellow countrymen as something between a prophet and a court jester.
This portrait was filmed in London and Oxford during a recent visit from his home in Delhi.
