A brilliant young writer, Fedja, meets the beautiful Pauline on the way to the casino at Wiesbaden where she and her father are habitual patrons at the gambling tables. In an effort to help cancel the family's debts Fedja stakes his life savings at roulette.
Gregory Peck plays the writer who himself becomes a slave to the tables in this story inspired by Dostoevsky's The Gambler.
