Buck brings sad news for Manolito and Victoria. Their father, Don Sebastian - Lion of Sonora - is dead. As Manolito prepares to take on his new responsibilities another blow falls. The sole heir to the Montoya estate with its rich lands and vast herds of cattle is the black sheep of the family, Don Domingo de Montoya, an irresponsible rogue with a predilection for high living and low women.
While Don Domingo enjoys himself Big John and the men of the High Chaparral grimly try to fight off the bandits who are rustling and raiding across Arizona and Mexico.
