On 1 June 1955, founder members of the EEC met in conference at Messina in Sicily. Today, 25 years later, the community they established is beset by disagreement and heading towards insolvency. Yet new countries are queuing to join - first Greece, then Spain and Portugal. In The Money Programme Nick Clarke and Diane Harron examine whether the addition of these new members will make the Community's problems worse or compel EEC leaders to re-examine its rules and regulations before bankruptcy becomes a reality.
