4: Stamford, Lincolnshire
For many, especially before the by-pass was built, Stamford was a grinding traffic-jam on the old Al as the road followed a tortuous dog-leg course through the middle of the town - a course determined to this day by the site of the ancient Danish burh. But this lovely town, full of fine buildings, was the first to be designated a Conservation Area under the Civic Amenities Act of 1967. It possesses five handsome churches, lovely houses splendid in carved ornament and detail, and roofs made of the famous stone slates from nearby Collyweston. There's also an excellent collection of civic regalia and just across the River Welland stands Burghley House, William Cecil 's prodigious mansion, set in a masterpiece of landscape designed by Capability Brown.
Stunning and imaginative camerawork.

The last of seven guides to birds The Gull Family
The star of Desert Island Discs has a reputation to live down. Far from being a seagull, a bird of the wide oceans, most gulls are coastal birds. Indeed, many have now come further inland to take advantage of man, feeding on rubbish tips and nesting on city rooftops.

Teenage
Motorcyclists Presented by Eric Robson
' Before long we'll be zigzagging along the road avoiding all the bodies.'
The 18-year-old who said this stands 30 times more chance of being involved in an accident when he rides his motorbike, than if he drove a car. Over half of all motorcycle deaths are riders under the age of 20. How far is it possible to legislate against teenage enthusiasm? And should we even try?
As sales of mopeds and motorcycles reach record levels, and as dealers press for the age limit to be lowered to 15, Brass Tacks asks, ' Are we doing enough to reduce the thousands of deaths and injuries that motorcycles cause?'
