A Ripe Old Age
Fyfe Robertson says he doesn't have to tell you why Dame Josephine Barnes , who was among the first women surgeons, has been elected the 139th and first woman President of the British Medical Association. Seeing Dame Jose phine , head-scarved, in a supermarket, you would take her to be a housewife whose problems and achievements are domestic. But she is an international authority on obstetrics and gynaecology - and, at 67, she is doing more surgery than ever.

Anthony Dowell in Four Schumann Pieces Choreographer
HANS VAN MANEN
The Royal Ballet production, recorded at the Royal Opera House, combines the talents of the young Dutch choreographer, Hans van Manen , and the superb classical technique of the Royal Ballet's Anthony Dowell in this short, lyrical ballet to Schumann's String Quartet in A major, Op 41, No 3.
Hans van Manen said of the work: ' To each of the Quartet's four movements, I have choreographed a ballet appropriate to the different moods and rhythms of the music. I have always wished to create a ballet for Anthony Dowell , and now this wish is fulfilled.'
