Les Sylphides with Dame Alicia Markova
From its performance in Paris on 2 June 1909 with the legendary Pavlova, Karsavina and Nijinsky, Les Sylphides became one of the most widely loved ballets of all time.
Its choreographer MICHEL FOKINE , using the beautiful piano works of Chopin, created the essence of romantic ballet. Dame Alicia had the privilege of learning the roles from Fokine himself.
In tonight's masterclass, Dame Alicia passes on this knowledge to Margaret Barbieri and David Ash -mole of the Sadler's Wells Royal Ballet.
At the end of the masterclass, Clement Crisp , ballet critic of the Financial Times, talks to Dame Alicia about Les Sylphides.
