Spencer Tracy in one of his most powerful roles as Matt Devereaux , a ruthless cattle baron who has built up a ranching empire and expects his sons to follow him. When Devereaux finds himself in conflict with the mining interests which threaten to pollute his water, he looks to his sons for help. But family loyalties are strained by his tyrannical action.
