The medieval church of All Saints, North Street in York contains some of the finest stained glass in the country. Not vast works but windows small and close enough to look at and appreciate in detail. The beginning of a growing enjoyment of them is that they tell stories. But there is still another level of enjoyment and experience which has been created by the artists who made them an experience of light; light that has its own life; changing light that affects everything. In the Shadow of the Falcon Narrated by DEREK JONES
The peregrine falcon is one of the world's most spectacular birds of prey. This story is about the handful of wardens - men like Roy Dennis of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds - who watch over such rare creatures and ensure they can breed in peace.
With him we are able to watch the private life of the peregrine falcons at their cliff-face site as they feed and rear their young.

I'll Die in Byker
In the small sitting-room of a terraced house in Newcastle Ethel, Jean and Nora spin out the cobbled-street memories of the old Byker community. Around them, what's left of the familiar streets and alleyways are being ploughed down to make way for a new community. But, for these three women, the memories are like well-worn family snapshots, brightening up the weeks and months of delays as the council's re-housing programme struggles through the long, cqld winter.

As Deadly as the Male?
' Kill! Kill! Blood makes the grass grow.' That's what Westpoint cadets cry on their bone-crushing bayonet assault course. When women first went through the course, some of them fainted at the thought of these blood-curdling words. So is it right that women should be involved at the sharp end of the killing machine?
Tonight Diane Harron , in the last of this three-part series on women in the armed forces of Britain, America and Israel, talks to one Israeli woman who knows what it's like to kill, and to other women who can kill at the press of a button.
' Killing is a dreadful business' ... so should it be left to the men?
