Seventy years later, as a result of strikes at Dagenham, there were no cars on the Ford Stand at the Birmingham Motor Show -except the Model T. Does the responsibility for some of the industry's current industrial problems lie in the history of the company and the temperament of the man who founded it - Henry Ford ?
This programme tells the story of Ford who, in 1911, built Highland Park, Detroit - the largest factory in the world. The man who introduced the production line and who set out with the humanitarian ideal of producing cheap cars for the people and ended up defying his own striking workers. Ford seemed to embody the American dream but bequeathed to the world, in many people's opinion, a nightmare legacy.

In this third 'Marlowe' thriller, Chandler's detective is played-and directed - by Robert Montgomery in one of the most unusual films ever made.
