An attempt to convey the experience of being a monk in the Buddhist monastery of Tangboche in Nepal. Although prayer is incessant, and wind and water-power add to constant human effort in turning the prayer wheels, prayer is not at the heart of their spiritual life. The heart is meditation, through which they hope to arrive at the state of Nirvana, once described by the Buddha as a ' roaring silence'.

The great straight-faced silent clown Buster Keaton plays a college student intent on impressing his girl by mastering campus customs. His attempts at athletics from baseball to rowing are predictably disastrous - but Buster, still unsmiling, comes out on top. As unemployment grows, the unions are suffering their first real decline in membership this century. Meanwhile the battle-lines of Left and Right in the Labour Party are echoed by similar divisions in their ranks.
The Engineering Workers, the Civil Servants and other groups of workers are riven by disputes often directly political in origin. Are these divisions unnecessarily damaging the unions? Or do they reflect an essential debate about the trades unions' role under a Conservative government, and where their future lies? Vincent Hanna reports.
