A series of three programmes
From the days of Brunel's first purpose-built ocean liner the Great Western, to the QE2 of the present day the Atlantic crossing has been a story of romance, disaster and big business and of ships that were symbols of national pride. Today the jet aircraft dominates the Atlantic and the great liners are ghosts of the past. In this first programme Robert Wall tells the story of the early days; of such famous ships as the Titanic, the Lusitania and the Mauretania and the power struggle to dominate the ocean.

The final film in this series about law and order in Florida, U.S.A. 13: Execution
John A. Spenkelink (30) was convicted of murder and sentenced to death in 1973. He endured a six-year nightmare on Death Row, never faltering in his plea of self defence. One by one, the technical objections put up by his defence were being set aside by the Appeal Courts. By Thursday 24 May 1979, John Spenkelink 's life hung by a thread. At 11.30 pm, that thread snapped. The next day, at
10.0 am, John Spenkelink sat harnessed and immobile in the electric chair. At 10.18, he was declared dead.
This film is a sobering analysis of what took place at Florida's first electrocution for 15 years. It is told by THE REV TOM FEAMSTER , Spenkelink's priest and confidant, and by official eye-witnesses.
