The fourth and final act of this film starring Liv Ullmann, Erland Josephson

Although she is able to assure her daughter Anna that she will not try to commit suicide again, Jenny is unable to bridge the gulf that has grown between them. This new source of anxiety is dispelled as she watches her grandmother lovingly reassure her dying grand-father. A sense of reconciliation overwhelms Jenny as her life starts again.
Ingmar Bergman 's own personal turmoil is reflected in this story of a well-adjusted, capable and disciplined person whose shockingly quick breakdown is followed by an agonising rebirth.
