9: Five Million Pounds at Stake
The fast-growing town of Poole in Dorset needed a place for entertainment. Last year they opened the Arts Centre with a theatre, concert hall, cinema, restaurant and community centres all under one roof and costing £5,000,000. In early November the young director launched his peak season of attractions to put the Centre project to the test, and, as the bills cascaded around them, the rate-payers were asked to pay 1500,000 a year to subsidise the dream.

A Touch of Sensitivity
How do you feel about touching? Our skin is a sensitive matter; it contains five million touch cells, but what are they for and how important are they to us?
Recent experiments show that touch deprivation can lead to abnormal and violent behaviour; also to brain damage, heart disease and lack of resistance to infection.
Touch therapy is proving useful with disturbed adolescents and in marriage guidance. But more surprising is evidence that premature babies do better lying on lambs-wool than on cotton sheets and that heart patients do better if they keep pets.
From bizarre experiments in phone booths and libraries comes further evidence of the power of touch. Can we afford to ignore its importance in our everyday lives? Narrator VERNON JOYNER

A Summing-up
Is justice possible under the spotlight of publicity? Do TV cameras have a proper place in a court of law? Can they influence the right of every defendant both in Britain and the USA to a fair trial? Should a jury be vetted and selected? Is the essentially American ' plea-bargain ' quietly gaining ground here? This studio discussion examines some issues raised by the unique courtroom documentary series set in Florida, USA. Robin Day introduces
