Britain's first City
Technology College has opened in Solihull. It's a new type of school financed by the Government and industry, with a strong bias towards teaching science and technology from the age of 11. The theorists hold that youngsters leaving will have a better chance of understanding work in a high-tech future, but critics say it will be elitist and attract bright children away from state schools.
The College meets some of the parents, teachers, politicians and children caught up in the controversy of the City Technology College.

Bruce Fawcett is lucky to be alive. Late last year he found a bomb under his car. It was planted in a battle over 'poaching rights' on the Firth of Forth. Attempted murder is part of the price being paid for the £l million of illegal salmon taken from the Forth last year. Poaching deer can be equally lucrative.
Among the health conscious there's a ready market for low-fat venison. Yet ironically, venison is not covered by the Meat Inspection Regulations and significant numbers of deer are now known to carry diseases transmittable to man. None of which is likely to impress the modern poacher. Poaching today is organised crime but, as Max Easterman reports, the gamekeepers are starting to fight back. Night sights and military style patrols are the new weapons in the fight to protect Britain's game.
