Weather followed by Under Sail
The Great Mail Race
For one day each year the Baltic harbours of Grisslehamn and Storby are transformed. They're taken back to the days when the mail was transported by small open boats across hostile seas.
This annual event is known as the 'Postrodden'. Dressing in the style of the period and sailing in replica boats of the past, today's generation relives those times.

Fighting the Claim
It's one thing to know your rights. It's quite another to claim them - often in the teeth of bureaucratic or medical opposition.
Margo MacDonald talks to people who refused to take no for an answer and pursued their claims against all odds. They include a disabled man who fought for a mobility allowance, and the widow of a man who died of asbestos disease.

New Music
The world of 'classical music' might seem an unusual topic for Split Screen, but current trends in 'new music' composition can arouse strong passions in musicians and audiences alike.
William Scanlan Murphy , a music graduate and author, claims that 'many people would say that they don't just dislike what they're hearing - they'd say it wasn't music at all'.
Simon Emmerson , a composer and lecturer, responds that composers are developing a music which calls 'upon a vast variety of resources, some traditional, some experimental, some acoustic and electronic ... Let us welcome their new vitality'. Film editors
