Last of a three-part series on the saga of the Channel Tunnel.
Fire and Debt. As the costs of building the tunnel continued to rise, the project fell further and further behind schedule. When the Queen finally declared the project open, Eurotunnel had nearly run out of revenue.
This final episode charts the effects of the financial woes, which were compounded by a vicious price war with the ferry companies and, in 1996, the fire that broke out on a freight shuttle. With James Naughtie. Producer David Dickinson
