Classic courtroom drama based on the Harper Lee novel starring Gregory Peck

While their widowed father defends a black man accused of rape, Jem and Scout are more concerned with the important events and playthings of childhood. However, as prejudice splits their impoverished southern community, the children get caught up in the grown-ups' proceedings. Gregory Peck won an Oscar for his compassionate performance in this classic adaptation of the Pulitzer prize-winning novel.

Elgar's Cello Concerto
Paul Tortelier 's recording with Boult of this well-loved concerto proved that understanding Eigar's music is not the prerogative of the English. In tonight's programme, first shown in 1974, he brings Gallic wisdom to the work as he coaches two young musicians.

A ten-part series of feature-length documentaries made by independent film-makers reflecting their individual concerns and passions. Absolutely Positive
An estimated one-and-a-half million Americans are infected with HIV. If government estimates are correct, half will develop Aids in the next ten years. American film-maker
Peter Adair offers a moving and uplifting account of how 11 men and women, infected with HIV, live with the prospect. His subjects range in age from 17 to 60 and represent a variety of lifestyles, regions, ethnic origins and risk groups. Adair, whose work often examines issues of immediate personal concern, says, "A while ago I tested positive for the HIV virus.... I decided to make a film about it."

BBC2's weekly cinema night. Skip Lievsay discusses
"designing sound" for the films Cape Fear, Matewan and Barton Fink. There's a profile of the film studios at
Babelsberg in Berlin where
Metropolis, Marlene Dietrich 's Blue Angel and Baron
Munchhausen were made, and an interview with Wim Wenders , whose Until the End of the World was partly shot there last year. Also, how three first time writer-directors, whose new films were rejected by the usual British backers, raised their money in unusual ways. David Cohen (The
Pleasure Principle) got his budget from his NatWest bank manager! Mark Peploe (Afraid of the Dark), raised European co-production money, and Mark Harmon took his Blame It on the Bellboy script to Disney. With Howard Schuman.
