In 1962 the Beatles conquered Liverpool; in 1963 they stormed Britain; in 1964 the US - and then the world. The Beatles were the first supergroup. Until the group gave up performing live in 1966, their concerts were one resounding scream; their lives ones of endless harassment.

Two subalterns, Drake and Millington, take up their duties with the Indian Light Cavalry at a lonely outpost on the North-West Frontier. Intent on dismissal at the end of his probation period, Millington goes out of his way to earn the disapproval of his seniors. When Mrs Scarlett, widow of the regimental hero, is viciously assaulted, Millington is arrested. Unconcerned about the outcome of the court martial, he chooses the inexperienced Drake to defend him....
