Weather followed by Olympic
Match of the Day
This afternoon's match from the ice-hockey tournament in the Olympic Saddledome is a repeat of the classic
1980 confrontation between the USA and the USSR. Then, in Lake Placid, the American amateurs pulled off an astounding 4-3 victory to take the gold medal, but the Soviets came back to win in Sarajevo four years ago, and remain very much the team to beat in Calgary.

Featuring live from Calgary, the Women's Downhill Introduced by Desmond Lynam
Live coverage of the Premier women's alpine event, and a chance to witness again the astonishing rivalry between the Swiss girls MICHELA FIGINI and MARIA WALLISER.
Four years ago Figini became the youngest ski-ing gold medallist when she won the downhill in Sarajevo, aged 17, with Walliser second.
Then, amid emotional scenes in Crans Montana last year, Walliser snatched the World Championship title from her rival.
Today's run at Nakiska should be just as tense since, as well as the Swiss girls, LAURIE GRAHAM of Canada, in her third Olympics, will fancy her chances of winning on home soil.

A weekly report on the world of education with Linda Alexander and Martin Young
The future of arts education is under debate. The proposed national curriculum only lists 'art' and 'music' as foundation subjects. Critics fear that this will restrict the teaching of a full range of arts subjects. This week's programme focuses on Wigan Education Authority where the arts are given a high priority. Could this be a model for the future, or will it be curtailed by the Education Reform Bill? Producer MARY FOURT Editor PETER RIDING (e)

How would you feel if a hostel for ex-offenders and former alcoholics were built in your street? Afraid for your children and your old folk, or willing to live with new neighbours who are genuinely trying to find their feet?
In Wigan one neighbourhood has been facing just such a dilemma.

by DAVID NOBBS starring Peter Blake and Malcolm Starry with Arbel Jones and Elizabeth Mickery
Masquerading as the alluring 'Myfanwy', Aubrey's wife, Gwyneth, tells Dan (who claims to be a driver of important - sometimes secret - 'abnormal' loads), that she is about to broaden her mind. Meanwhile, Dan's wife,
Helen, is doing quite well passing herself off as an actress to Aubrey (who is pretending to be an MP but who is, in fact, like
Dan, a dogfood lorry driver and who has a determination to get on Mastermind and win). But all is not as simple as it seems.

Diary of a Frontliner Peter , who's 48, has AIDS - he doesn't expect to live for more than about two years. 40 Minutes installed a video camera in his flat so that, at any time of the day or night, he could record his personal reflections and fears.
With extracts from this moving video diary, the film explores the public and private experience of living with AIDS.
As a member of Frontliners, a group of people with AIDS - Peter is determined to be open about his illness. But in the diary he tells how close friends have cut him off because he has gone public. At 3.00am on the night of the hurricane, unable to sleep, he talks about a friend who's just died of AIDS - Peter has lost 15 friends this year. But with the support of his family and other Frontliners, he faces the future with dignity and humour.
