9: Five Million Pounds at Stake
The fast-growing town of Poole in Dorset needed a place for entertainment. Last year they opened the Arts Centre with a theatre, concert hall, cinema, restaurant and community centres all under one roof and costing £5,000,000. In early November the young director launched his peak season of attractions to put the Centre project to the test, and, as the bills cascaded around them, the rate-payers were asked to pay 1500,000 a year to subsidise the dream.
