A Touch of Sensitivity
How do you feel about touching? Our skin contains five million touch cells, but what are they for and how important are they to us? There is evidence that premature babies do better lying on lambs-wool than on cotton sheets and that heart patients do better if they keep pets. Bizarre experiments in phone booths and public libraries provide further evidence of the power of touch.

The programme in which the BBC hands over air time to the public. This evening Mothers' Action Support Team presents
A Better Life - A Better Wife.
All mothers want to build stronger, happier relationships with their husbands and children. To do this they need time to develop their own individuality.
Without support this is difficult and the family can suffer. A number of us in Linton, Cambridgeshire, solved our problems by forming a self-help group. Now MAST has 52 branches throughout the British Isles.

A new series of outstanding foreign films begins tonight with an award-winning drama shown for the first time in this country in its original, Italian version. Ettore Scola's wonderful evocation of pre-war Rome is enhanced by a colour process developed specially for this film and, of course, by the performance of the most famous acting partnership in the Italian cinema.
On the particular day in May 1938 when the population of Rome fills the streets to celebrate Hitler's meeting with Mussolini, another meeting takes place in an anonymous block of flats that will bring more lasting joy and strength to the people concerned: Antoinetta, a down-trodden housewife, and Gabriele, a lonely radio announcer, recently sacked for being a homosexual.
