The Last Two Weeks in June
For nearly 100 years the 'Hoppings ' on Newcastle Town Moor has been the most important event in the travelling showman's calendar. This unique event began as a Temperance Festival but generations of Geordies have brought to it every year a wilder summer excitement.
David Pritchard , a young film-maker, sampled the delights of the ' Hoppings' a year ago and talked to two of its staunchest defenders, Bill Weeks and Bill Varley.
