Introduced by Robert Robinson
Richard Booth claims to run the world's biggest secondhand book business in Hay-on-Wye, on the borders of Herefordshire and Breconshire. Booth travels the world to buy stock, and he has approaching one million books on sale in Hay-on-Wye in the castle, the cinema, the old fire station and three other premises he has bought up. RICHARD BOOTH and some of his customers talk about the town whose major industry is secondhand books.
Also Piers Paul Read , whose book Alive: The Story of the Andes Survivors and a novel The Upstart have just appeared in paperback; and Hilary Spurling reviews some recent paperbacks.

The October Crisis of 1970 in Quebec
Five years ago a new set of initials representing nationalistic unrest reached the world's headlines. The FLQ, standing for a separate Quebec, and a separate French Canada, kidnapped a British official, James Cross , and a cabinet minister of the Province, Pierre Laporte. The FLQ had previously bombed letter-boxes but they had now moved into broader violence that resulted in the killing of the French-Canadian politician, Laporte. Cross was eventually released, after anxious days of ultimatums and threats. This memorable film by the National Film Board of Canada puts a historical perspective on these days of crisis for all of Canada. It is a problem which continues past these events, for although the FLQ may not be supported widely by French-Canadians, the cause of separatism is.
Directed and narrated by ROBIN SPRY
